The basics
Confirm the thermostat is set to heat and at least 5 degrees above ambient. Check that the breaker for the furnace is on. Make sure the furnace switch (looks like a light switch) is on.
The filter
A clogged filter is the most common cause of furnace shutdowns. Pull the filter and hold it up to a light. if you cannot see through it, replace it before calling.
The flame and venting
If the unit is firing but no heat is coming through vents, vents may be closed or blocked. If the unit is not firing at all, the flame sensor or igniter is the usual culprit. that is a tech visit.
Call dispatch
If basics check out and you still have no heat in winter, call now. cold-weather no-heat is treated as emergency dispatch.
